Special Prayer Request ~ Luke Searles

In the Fall of 2004, we asked our newsletter readers to pray for Luke Searles and his family...below is an update and a continued request for your faithful prayers on his behalf!

For those of you that are just learning about Luke, let me give you a bit of background. Luke had a drowning accident on August 30, 2004, he was dead for at least 40 minutes. God brought him back to life! He suffered significant brain damage and we were told not to expect him to get better, but we know we serve a mighty God.

Now a year and half later we have not given up hope that Luke will smile, talk, walk, run and play again. He has made significant progress! Luke had a tracheotomy, which is a tube in his neck to help him breathe, He got that out last April and has been breathing fine ever since.

When we brought him home from the Hospital he basically laid there with absolutely no emotions or eye movement. I'm happy to say he will now let you know if he is in pain or has any discomfort, he even calls for me in his own way. Luke is tracking with his eyes now and when something gets real close to his eyes he crosses them to focus, this is big news!

God gave me the Scripture Habakkuk 2:3 which has brought great comfort and faith to me on those days that I just wanted to stop believing in the mighty miracle that God is performing in his life. Habakkuk 2:3 "But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled."

This Scripture mentions that it will come slowly, steadily and surely, don't despair, it won't be overdue a single day. No, Luke is not walking, talking or doing other things that little ones his age normally do, but Luke is coming back to us very slowly and we are encouraged by God's faithfulness.

Specific prayer requests right now are:
  • that he will show us his beautiful smile very soon
  • that his legs which are slowly getting better will not have to have Botox shots to make them bend
  • that he will stay healthy and temperature free
  • that God will continue to restore his brain to perfection
  • And last but not least
that God will continue to give our family the strength that we need to continue on this journey that He is leading us on.

Thank you for your prayers, they mean more than you can imagine. Love in Christ, Luke's Mommy Sue Searles
